Living a “healthy” lifestyle has been
at the forefront of my mind since 1981, the year my
mother was first diagnosed with breast cancer. Twelve
years later, she again was fighting for her life with
a different type of breast cancer. This time, after
chemotherapy, she became very sensitive to any “smells”
in her environment. Unable to tolerate the outgassing
of building materials used in their newly constructed
dream home, she and my father had to find a temporary
place to live. This was the beginning of my awareness
of hidden chemicals in our homes.
A short while later, a long time friend was also
diagnosed with breast cancer. She was only twenty-five
years old and lived for five more years. How could
this happen to someone so young and vibrant? If environmental
toxins had played any part, I was going to try to
understand the subject better and spread the word.
For the last twelve years, I have researched this
topic, read hundreds of publications, attended conferences,
and received a certification in Building Biology.
My own family has aided me in this education. My mother’s
personal struggles to survive in today’s “toxic”
world, my husband’s scientific background as
a physician, and my father’s expertise as a
builder, have all helped me to become a knowledgeable
consultant for those who want to live healthier lives
in healthier structures.
My education in this field was born out of necessity.
My passion increases everyday as I learn more about
various ways to protect our health. With every client,
every speech, and every phone call, I know the “awareness”
is spreading. |
